Dear Neighbor,
I am writing to ask for your support in the special election for City Council, Ward 6. The events of the past few weeks have brought Cranston and specifically the sixth ward a considerable amount of negative interest in the national press. Difficult times call for strong, stable, and ethical leadership. Cranston needs a steady city government to attract economic growth, support our schools, public safety, and to ensure that our tax dollars are well spent. I have served Cranston for eight years on the school committee, four years as Chair. The experience has taught me a great deal about public service and government, especially when navigating a worldwide pandemic. Serving on the city council during this challenging time is the best use of that experience.
I am a lifelong Rhode Islander. Born and raised in East Providence, I earned a bachelor’s degree from Providence College and a master’s degree from Brown University. For the past twenty-six years I have served as an educator and department chairperson in the Providence school department. Education is the greatest equalizer and I believe strongly in its power and value. When it was time to raise a family my wife and I moved to Cranston, and we have resided here for over twenty-two years. We are proud to call it our home. My two daughters attended Cranston public schools and are now attending college.
My pledge to you is to act with fiscal responsibility and always look for our tax dollars. My plan is to promote intelligent economic development that increases our tax base while protecting the neighborhoods we live in. By doing so, we can support city services that promote quality of life, including good schools and strong public safety. As your elected council member, I will be accessible and responsive because when the people are involved in their government, they can really make a difference.
